3W Studios Soccer team takes trophy

The inaugural Over-30s Warner Soccer Super Six season has been won by 3W Studios, named for their sponsor, an Interactive Design firm of Tallahassee and Orlando.
The final was held on July 5th between 3W Studios and the Mudchickens. The teams had previously battled to a 7-7 tie before the play-offs, and the stage was set for a tense match.
The Mudchickens started well, and having a larger supply of substitutes on the bench, looked to have the upper hand. However, the game was tight throughout. The Mudchickens opened the scoring, but 3W Studios came back to equalise, and set what was to become a pattern, each team answering each other with another goal. At half time the Mudchickens led 3-2.
The second half got even more tense as the teams tired and mistakes became more costly. As the half grew old, 3W Studios found themselves a goal down when disaster struck. After an off-the-ball incident, they were unfortunate to have Tom Konrad sent off. Down a player, things looked over, but they dug deep and equalised again. Further calamity was just around the corner though, with goalkeeper Marti Harkness limping off with a sprained knee only minutes later. With the clock ticking down the score went to 5-4 in favor of the Mudchickens, before 3W Studios once again equalised to send the game into extra time.
The first five minutes were scoreless, which took the game into a second five-minute period of sudden death. A man down, 3W Studios had been defending heavily for some time now, but were able to make the decisive move and break the deadlock. A long goal kick from substitute keeper Mike Milnes gave Jeremy Spinks the chance to get behind the last defender and head home the winner.
It was a tough break for the Mudchickens who's second place finish was no consolation on the night. This is the first title for 3W Studios since the 1999 Summer tournament win (then known as "Old Sport").
