Announcing Green Hosting
Regular readers will know that 3W Studios has been focused on environmental issues for some time now. Our latest step towards sustainability is to offer our clients green hosting.
As a division of Kidd Group, 3W Studios is now a member of the EPA's Green Power Partnership. Kidd Group has committed to purchase a percentage of its energy from sustainable and renewable resources. Currently, we are buying 12% of our energy from local renewable sources. While 12% of our overall usage is just the beginning, that 12% covers the energy used by one of our server environments. Look out for Green Hosting banners to tell you that a website is hosted within that environment, and the energy used is offset by production of renewable energy.

Email Marketing Trends
A recent article on email marketing trends amongst online retailers provided an update on industry metrics considered successful. So what are they? A delivery rate of 80-85% is considered good, and an open rate (people who actually open the email) of 30-35% is what the industry expects.
We ran some numbers on emails sent by us and our clients since January 2007, to lists of over 100 people. The numbers look good. Our average delivery rate is 95% and our average open rate is 34%, with a high of 53.6%.
The secret of our success can be put down to three things. Firstly, we use a robust system to send and track the email - bounced email addresses are purged and subsequent mailings get more and more targeted. Secondly, the system is opt-in and our clients manage their lists properly - they are not sending messages to people who do not want them. Lastly, we create custom templates that are recognizable to the recipient (they take the brand into the inbox) and easy to read and use.
